As I look out the window upon three-foot snow drifts from a brisk winter wind flying over our fields, there is no mistaking winter is upon us. Plows are even getting stuck on our Lancaster County road, which means we are hunkering down and enjoying a snow day! Naturally, I'll be craving a hot cup of cocoa and a nice warm blanket. I'm no chocolate snob: bring out the cocoa powder, Wilbur Buds or melting chocolates. I love it all!
While a classic cocoa gets me warm and fuzzy, I'm also pretty excited to experiment this year with new hot cocoa recipes from our Pinterest page. Want a twist? Add a dash of vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg, or cayenne pepper. Maybe a little amaretto or some peanut butter. The options are endless.
Whatever recipe you choose, just remember this simple ingredient to make your cup taste perfect: A pinch of salt to really round out the flavor.
I know, it sounds simple to some of you. But you'd be amazed at how many people skip this step. I personally love a touch of salt and a drip of vanilla extract to round out the chocolaty flavor. But, I think today calls for a shot of Bailey's, some cool whipped cream and a sprinkling of dark chocolate covered pretzel bits.
